Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT)
Background
The Higher Colleges of Technology is the largest public higher education institution in the UAE, with 16 campuses and over 20,000 students. As part of their ongoing efforts to innovate, HCT approached HoloFair to enhance their career advising and academic services using immersive metaverse technology. HoloFair was tasked with creating the "Eduverse", a virtual campus designed to offer students a more interactive and forward-thinking learning environment.
Challenge & solution
Challenge
01
HCT wanted to create a 'Campus of the Future' that combined futuristic architecture with sustainability, while also reflecting UAE culture and heritage. The platform required various functional spaces for employability and academic services, supporting up to 1,000 concurrent users. Additionally, it was vital to integrate with HCT's existing systems while offering a user-friendly environment for students and faculty in both English and Arabic.
Solution
02
HoloFair developed a 50,000 sqm metaverse campus for HCT to enhance its services. The platform provided an engaging environment where students and faculty could access resources, collaborate, and take part in immersive experiences. Key features of the Eduverse included:
𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻: The campus combined modern architecture with UAE culture, featuring curved structures, greenery, solar panels, and natural lighting for sustainability.
𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀: Students could choose avatars from a set of male and female characters dressed in traditional UAE attire, allowing them to navigate the metaverse campus in a culturally relevant way.
𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗯: A space where students could meet career advisers one-on-one, join group workshops, and access career resources. Through integration with the Symplicity platform, students could also attend private meetings scheduled in advance.
𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲: Students could showcase, review, and discuss their capstone projects in a metaverse setting. Each student had a private gallery to upload their work throughout the semester, offering a personalized space for feedback and presentations.
𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲: Students explored digital twins of key UAE landmarks such as Al Ain Oasis, Khorfakkan Amphitheatre, and Expo City. These 3D environments supported group interactions, discussions, and presentations, enhancing storytelling skills.
𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀: Other areas included the HCT headquarters, a library, and exhibition halls. These spaces allowed students to access important HCT resources, play interactive games with leaderboards, and attend career fairs to explore job opportunities.
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀: The platform integrated smoothly with HCT’s Single Sign-On system and Blackboard, providing students easy access to courses and career services. A custom analytics dashboard tracked real-time student engagement, and the platform was compatible with VR headsets.
